Konami has promised to release slot machines that feature facial recognition by late next year.
Speaking at the Global Gaming Expo held at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in October where Konami was showcasing slot machines. featuring facial recognition technology, the company’s chief systems product officer and also senior vice president Tom Soukup said that they hope to have the innovative slot machines in casinos by 2020
Technology to be Released by 2020
The innovative slot machines will ease the woes of players who in the past lost loyalty points.
With the failure to insert their loyalty cards when they begin their gaming adventures.
Thanks to the facial recognition technology, the innovative slot machines will simply ‘look’ and detect the player who is playing. and dully award him the loyalty points. The trouble of carrying around a loyalty card will all become a thing of the past.
On the operation and benefits of the innovative machines, Soukup said, “Your face is basically your QR code…
If you forget your card in when you start playing and later wish they would have gotten their points. This is usability that will be frictionless for the player.”
Players need not worry about coming face to face with an intimidating hardware device placed in front of the slot machine as the facial recognition technology is all masterminded by a forward-looking camera that is attached to the machine.
The Leo-Vegas based casino games developer said the innovative machines are not yet ready for the market but it’s only a matter of time before they do.
Soukup said Konami does acknowledge that not all players will warmly embrace the innovation hence the slot machines will afford players the chance to choose between facial recognition technology or to continue using the loyalty card slot.
Konami took time at the same event as a new camera system that will help in detecting players playing table games at the tables.
The innovative machines are yet to hit the market, Konami said that among the industry partners that it has showcased the machines too, many have generally been warm to the innovation.
The vice president of gaming for Golden Entertainment, the owner of several casinos in Nevada, Jay Fennel said that they are intrigued by the machines but there is a need to gauge public perception before they are released into the market.
Fennel went on to state that Golden Entertainment will be one of the early adopters once the machines are released in the market.
Soukup said that he hopes to see the innovation transcend from its current use to other areas. “In the future, people could be using their face to not only play at a slot machine or table games.
But, you might be able to go to the buffet and use your face to redeem a comp…As long as the customer sees a benefit in this, that’s what will help it take off.
