Olympus Slot Review
Olympus is one of the latest games to launch on the Slotland and Winaday platforms. These two long-running online casinos have bucked the trend of using off-the-shelf slot machines and white-label casino suites, and have continued building their own bespoke websites and casino games instead. Whilst the costs of developing a new game or slot machine or undoubtedly high, there is a certain prestige that comes with being the only place on the web where you can play that latest hit game!
You might expect a game developed in-house by an online casino to be a little rough around the edges. Whilst that might have been true of some earlier Slotland games, there’s no questioning the quality of presentation offered by Olympus. Every part of this game looks simply fantastic, and the reels and characters move with glorious slickness and fluidity. This high-quality animation is made possible thanks to the latest HTML5 programming techniques, replacing the earlier Flash software that was previously used by online gaming developers.
Firing up the game for the first time you’ll be met with a five-by-four reel display which is spanned by forty pay lines. As is common to many modern slot machines you do not have the ability to select how many pay lines you wish to play, and your options for changing the size of your stake are quite limited as well. The minimum wager is 80 coins, and there are just four other bet sizes available with the maximum being 800 coins per spin. As with most Slotland games, Olympus is linked to a site-wide progressive jackpot, however, this is only available whilst spinning at the max bet level.
The main bonus round is a free-spins based feature which can award up to fifteen spins with up to a 5x multiplier. Disappointingly, however, the number of free spins you will receive is determined by the number of scatter symbols which trigger the bonus round, so you’ll need to hit all five for a chance to receive the maximum number of fifteen. Thankfully, you can at least receive any multiplier all the way up to 5x, regardless of the number of scatters which fall on the triggering spin.
A second “mystery” bonus symbol is also included on the reels which award a cash prize of up to 50x your stake, the exact amount varies according to luck and the size of your wager. One problem with this feature is that the mystery symbol can often block many other winning combinations, and if you don’t hit three of them on a single spin then they are basically worthless. The lightning bolt feature is much more useful – after the completion of any spin, Zeus may appear and adds several wild symbols to the reels.
Olympus is one of the best games to appear at Slotland and Winaday in quite a while, and the superb presentation leaves me excited to see what games this casino has in store for the future!
